LaserPacific's Data Mastering Group Remasters Steven Spielberg's Minority Report
Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, Minority Report, starring Tom Cruise was released in 2002. It was sixth time director Steven Spielberg had worked with acclaimed cinematographer Janusz Kaminski and their partnership continues to this day - most recently they worked together on Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Based in and around Washington DC in the year 2054, Minority Report features Tom Cruise as a member of the Precrime, a specialized police department that apprehends future criminals based on foreknowledge provided by three psychics who can see into the future. Because of their work, there has been no murder in DC for nine years. The future world that Kaminski helps to create through the cinematography is grainy and gritty - very different from the future worlds created in other sci-fi movies. The look of the movie, as seen in theaters, was further enhanced by utilizing Technicolor's ENR print process - a technique that increases contrast, decreases saturation and increases grain by retaining silver in the final prints.
