Writer/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer knew that their post production schedule was tight and their budget was not unlimited. Like their first film, Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie referenced recent blockbusters along with current events and celebrities. A timely release would be critical. After working with Laser Pacific and senior colorist Mike Sowa on Meet the Spartans, they had full confidence that their release date could be met without having to compromise on quality or creativity. In order to meet the release date without compromising image quality, Laser Pacific recommended the inDI process. The inDI process uses full range dailies recorded to RGB 4:4:4 high definition source masters as the source for the conform and grading instead of digital scans. Visual effects from various facilities were seamlessly integrated with the original photography. The color grading was supervised by editor Peck Prior and assistant editor Siobhan Prior. Because of his work on Meet the Spartans, senior colorist Mike Sowa already had a good idea of what kind of look the creative team wanted but he relied on Peck Prior to be the voice of the directors and cinematographer. “It all starts with listening” explains Mike, “looking at the images, talking about what the expectations are for this picture, and knowing which tools to use to meet the expectations”. |
